Novak Djokovic can beat Gasquet and book his place in yet another Wimbledon final
Wimbledon title holder Novak Djokovic is now well on course to defending his crown here, after easily seeing off US Open champion Marin Cilic in the quarters in straight sets, despite suffering a scare in the fourth round against Kevin Anderson.
The Serb is the odds-on favourite to claim his second SW19 crown, a best price of 3/4 with bwin, and thus get his ninth Grand Slam to go one ahead of the likes of great Fred Perry, Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl and Andre Agassi.
Standing in his way to reach his third consecutive final here is Richard Gasquet, who is arguably France’s version of Tim Henman after failing to live up to his promise and only reaching as far as the semis in the four major events.
Djokovic will be pleased to know that he’s beaten Gasquet, whose only previous appearance at this stage at Wimbledon was way back in 2007, in 12 of their previous 13 meetings. He is the overwhelming favourite at 1/12 with Boylesports, Sportingbet and Coral to do so again.
World number one Djokovic has also won their last nine head-to-heads, with eight of them being in straight sets, so you can back him at a more enticing 4/6 chance with Sportingbet to triumph 3-0.
However, with the Frenchman in such good form going into this tie, having knocked out Grigor Dimitrov, Nick Krygios and Stan Wawrinka in that order to get to this stage.
Djokvoic would have been delighted with Gasquet beating the latter in particular, as the Swiss recently shattered his hopes of achieving a career Grand Slam, after being beaten in the French Open final this year.
Gasquet very nearly allowed Wawrinka back in the match, though, after losing his serve at 5-3 up in the fifth set, but he eventually came through to triumph 6-4 4-6 3-6 6-4 11-9.
He will be inspired again against Djokovic no doubt, but the Serb will have too much quality to see him off, which is why you should take great odds of 3/1 with the like of SkyBet, 888.com and William Hill for the latter to win 3-1.
