Manchester City backers get an early Christmas bonus, with Paddy Power deciding that the Premier League title race is over
Not for the first time, Paddy Power have paid out early on an antepost football betting market, with the Irish firm deciding that Manchester City are going to win the Premier League title.
Therefore, any customer who backed City before 6 December has been paid out their winnings, with Pep Guardiola’s team eight points clear at the top of the Premier League ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
City have been unbeaten in the top flight this season, although cynics might argue that Paddy Power are creating a wave of publicity to ride on the back of the build-up to the Manchester derby, adding extra spice to the occasion.
Manchester United fans will certainly have noted this marketing decision and a victory in the derby this weekend will give supporters hope that they can still reel in the blue half of the city despite the gap.
Paddy Power haven’t always got their early payouts correct, although we are talking about a team trading at odds of 1/8, with City having wiped the floor with the majority of teams they have played this season.
However, they still have to visit Old Trafford, Anfield and Wembley among other grounds, while Arsenal’s recent display against Manchester United shows that the Gunners will be fierce opponents too.
A Paddy Power spokesman told bookies.com: “Manchester City are streets ahead of the other teams in the Premier League this season and they’ll still win the title even if they suffer a first defeat at Old Trafford.
“We’re happy to pay out before Christmas so that City backers can enjoy their winnings during holiday season.”
All odds were correct at time of posting.
