Rafael Benitez could well be making a return to the Premier League after the bookies slashed the odds on his securing the Newcastle United job.
Benitez still has a year to go in his two-year contract at Serie A side Napoli, however there are increasing rumours that the ex-Chelsea and Liverpool gaffer may be looking to make a return to these shores despite the fact that he is steering Napoli towards the Champions League for next season.
Benitez has hinted that he has unfinished business in the Premier League and he also failed to confirm that he has a longer-term future in Italy.
“I’ll speak about my future before the end of the season,” he told the media. “For now I want to stay focused on the present and the games we have coming up.
“I have a good relationship with the players and the club, there is still time to discuss this issue. When I leave Napoli, whether that’s in a year or five years, I want the team to be more mature, especially at European level with a squad to face every challenge.”
Should Benitez make a return to the Premier League, the bookies firmly believe that Newcastle will be his likely destination.
John Carver took the reins on a temporary basis following the departure of Alan Pardew earlier this season, however he has only steered the Magpies to one win as yet and it is believed that he will be dismissed from his temporary post at the end of the season.
Steve McClaren remains the firm favourite to be in charge on the first day of next season at 6/4 with Sky Bet.
