Remi Garde odds-on to be the next permanent Newcastle manager

Garde remains the frontrunner for the St James' Park post

Remi Garde has long been amongst the frontrunners to replace Alan Pardew as permanent Newcastle United manager, however he is now odds-on for the position.

All is far from rosy at Newcastle United. The Magpies haven’t managed a single win in any competition since last month, however the search is intensifying for some-one to take over the managerial reins following the sudden departure of Alan Pardew to Crystal Palace earlier this year.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has been scouring the overseas market for a new gaffer and he appears to have found one in the form of Remi Garde. Caretaker manager John Carver held hopes of being offered the position on a permanent basis, however recent results haven’t helped his cause. A 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea wasn’t a huge surprise, however a defeat to Premier League strugglers Leicester City in the FA Cup third round was particularly hard to bear.

Previous favourite Steve McClaren made no secret of the fact that he was more than happy staying at Derby County and as such, he effectively ruled himself out of contention for the post. Tim Sherwood appears not to be a contender either, his price moving out to 11/2. The only remaining contender is ex Arsenal midfielder Remi Garde and he is now as low as 4/6 with Betfair to be handed the reins.

Garde was manager of French Ligue 1 side Lyons until 2014, however he left the side citing personal reasons. Nevertheless, he would certainly prove a hit in the north-east and has a proven track record as a strong man-manager.

Frank de Boer remains a distant outsider at 33/1 with bet fair, however to be honest such a move for the Ajax manager would seem extremely unlikely.

Either way, the Magpies don’t appear to be in too much of a hurry to find their manager although we should perhaps expect some movement in the next few days or so.

All odds were correct at time of posting.
