Saturday horse racing tips – best bets for the ITV3 races

Our racing expert has a tip for each of the ten races being shown live on ITV3 this afternoon.

12:45 Ascot 5f Bet With Ascot Heritage Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+)
A hugely competitive sprint but SPRING LOADED is going to be a lot sharper for his Wokingham ninth, which is better than it looks as he was done few favours in the run, and this stiff 5f is going to suit last season’s easy Portland winner.

1:05 Newmarket 7f (July) bet365 Superlative Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (2yo)
All bar one of the seven runners won last time out and the exception, CERTAIN LAD, ran a very solid race to finish third in a Curragh Group 2 over 6f. He should appreciate the return to 7f having won his second race over this trip and is value at the odds.

1:20 Ascot 1m (7f213y) (Rnd) Fred Cowley MBE Memorial Summer Mile Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (4yo+)
BEAT THE BANK put himself back on track when not beaten far in the Group 1 Queen Anne last time, despite not enjoying much luck trying to come through runners, and this has been a good race for favourites with the last five obliging.

1:40 Newmarket 7f (July) bet365 Bunbury Cup Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+)
Plenty can be fancied but MUKALAL could be the answer as he has the look of a horse who has been targeted at this race and it bodes well for his chances that his best performance to date came over 7f on turf. Read my full race preview here.

1:55 York 5f John Smith’s City Walls Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo+)
There should be plenty of early pace on here and that could play into the hands of the hold-up performers, with MR LUPTON taken to pick them up late, as he did when winning over course and distance in May. Ignore his run at Sandown seven days ago as he missed the break.

2:15 Newmarket 6f (July) Darley July Cup Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (3yo+)
Blue Point looked as good as ever when winning the King’s Stand but he might not be so effective away from Ascot and over today’s extra furlong. At the odds, he is taken on with 2016 winner and last year’s runner-up LIMATO. Read my full race preview here.

2:35 York 1m6f (1m5f188y) John Smith’s Silver Cup Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (4yo+)
DAL HARRAILD was tailed off in the Dubai Gold Cup when last seen out in March, but he is still the clear form pick on the best his best efforts, including a win in Listed company over this track and trip. If back on song, he’ll be hard to beat.

3:10 York 1m (7f192y) John Smith’s Racing Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-105)
Wadilsafa ran okay in Group company last time and was impressive in a novice the time before, but at the odds a chance is taken on COMMANDER COLE coming back to his best with his stable in cracking form.

3:20 Newmarket 1m (July) bet365 Mile Handicap (Class 2) (3yo 0-100)
IBRAZ showed a good attitude to hold off a subsequent dual winner on his most recent start and Roger Varian’s charge looks progressive enough to shrug off a further 7lb rise to make it three wins on the spin.

3:40 York 1m2½f (1m2f56y) 59th John Smith’s Cup Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+)
This is wide open but it’s not hard to imagine KYNREN giving us a good run for your money at a double-digit price. David Barron’s four-year-old went 3-3 when switched to turf last season and perhaps should have won at Sandown (1m) two starts back, when just held and giving the impression he would be suited by this far.
