Aguero bagged a brace against Crystal Palace and the Argentine now third favourite to be Premier League top scorer
It’s been a typically injury-hit season for Sergio Aguero although the prolific striker is now starting to move through the gears and he could yet land the title for Manchester City.
Aguero was on target with a brace against Palace on Saturday as the Citizens won 4-0 and BetVictor now make the Argentine a 5/1 chance to reclaim his prize from last season when he top scored in the top flight.
Kun is now on ten goals for the season which puts him five behind Romelu Lukaku and Jamie Vardy, with Odion Ighalo and Riyad Mahrez on thirteen goals and Olivier Giroud and Harry Kane a further goal behind.
Lots of lively contenders and it’s Lukaku who continues to head the market, with Paddy Power offering a best price 9/4 about the Belgian remaining at the top of the charts, although the forward failed to get on the scoresheet on his return to Stamford Bridge.
Harry Kane is 9/2 with Ladbrokes and the Tottenham forward should be in the mix come the end of the campaign, while Paddy Power have 7/1 that Jamie Vardy top scores and the pacy forward will surely get himself back on the scoresheet soon.
“It’s impossible to replace Sergio,” Manuel Pellegrini said on Sunday. “He’s a top player and it’s very difficult to replace him. I think for every team to replace their top players is very difficult.
“We can play without Sergio, but of course we’ll be a stronger team with him playing at his best performance level.
“He’s not a player you can replace so easily. But I hope he will finish the season without any more injuries.”
Pablo Zabaleta also hopes there is plenty more to come from Aguero this season.
“He is one of the main players for the team — we need the best Sergio Aguero week in, week out,” Zabaleta said.
“There is a still a long season to go and this is a crucial period for the team. We know we are involved in the four competitions.
“Hopefully he can continue in this way and be 100 per cent fit until the end of the season. If he continues being that clinical, I am sure we will have a lot of chances to win games.”
