Derby County look a cracking each-way shout in the Sky Bet Championship this season

It doesn’t take a genius to tip Newcastle to claim the Championship title considering that Rafael Benitez has decided to remain at St James’ Park and the Magpies have recruited pretty heavily.

However, the Magpies aren’t much of a price at 7/4 and there’s the nagging suspicion that this league won’t be a walk in the park for a team who were relegated from the top flight last term.

United have the best squad in the division although they will be every other team’s cup final and it will be a free shot for many teams taking them on.

Every other team are priced at double figures to win the Championship title and that includes DERBY COUNTY who have been the bridesmaid on several occasions over the past few years.

Indeed, the past three seasons have seen the Rams lose in the play-off final, miss out narrowly on the play-offs and then lose in the play-off semi-final last season against Hull City.

However, the difference this time around is that they have an experienced manager who previously achieved good things with Leicester City and Nigel Pearson is not a manager to be taken lightly.

Pearson has not had to rebuild a squad full of talented players although he’s trained them hard in the summer and they should be fit as butcher’s dogs for the start of the new campaign.

Jeff Hendrick remains on the books, with Will Hughes and George Thorne also outstanding midfielders at this level, while Jacob Butterfield and Bradley Johnson provide further options in this department.

In attack, Thomas Ince has been given an advanced role and few clubs in this division can call upon Darren Bent and Chris Martin for the attacking roles.

Derby weren’t far away from the automatic shake up last season and Pearson should ensure a higher level of consistency which makes them a cracking each-way shout at 12/1.
