Southampton take on Midtjylland in second leg of Europa League play-off

Southampton are a 11/10 with PaddyPower to beat Danish outfit FC Midtjylland in 90 minutes and thus progress to the Europa League group stages. Although the score stands at 1-1 from the first leg, Ronald Koeman’s side more than have the advantage in quality over their counterparts.

Attacker Jay Rodriguez got off the mark at St Mary’s, scoring his first competitive goal since March 2014, and he has odds of 11/5 to net anytime with BetVictor, while you can take 6/1 with bet365 on him breaking the deadlock. The Europa League could well be an ideal stage for the Englishman to get back to full fitness.

Saints prepared for the second leg with a positive performance over a well-organised Watford side last time out, and head coach Koeman is optimistic that this is a great platform to build on going forward.

“It’s positive, because we received too many goals in the last two games. Five is too much in my opinion and that was the difference between the start of this season and last year,” he said.

“We did the system a little bit different, but it gave us confidence. We had good organisation compared to before. Now we had more security with the one more defender and we defended well.

“In the second half we had more domination in the game and we had some good opportunities. That’s different, but the rest of the team was the same like last year – good organisation, good teamwork. Then you need to score.

“To start a big week it’s good to have a clean sheet. We know our target for Thursday [against Midtjylland in the Europa League] is to score and after this start of the season we have to win at home against Norwich City.”

In striker Graziano Pelle, the Saints have a centre forward who can wreak havoc in the penalty area and will be highly confident of breaching opposition backline after a threatening performance last time out and can be a threatening force in the Europa League. Therefore, his odds of 7/4 with SkyBet to score anytime must be considered. recommended bet: Rodriguez anytime scorer @ 11/5 with BetVictor
