Steve McClaren as low as 3/1 to be next Newcastle manager

McClaren very much in the running to be appointed as manager at St James' Park

Steve McClaren is joint favourite alongside Remi Garde to be the next manager of Newcastle United following the departure of Alan Pardew to Crystal Palace.

McClaren is currently manager of Championship side Derby County, however Newcastle would be a very tempting proposition for Rams gaffer and he is up for grabs at a best price of 5/1 with Bet365 to take the hotseat at the north-east club.

McClaren has proven himself to be a popular and successful manager whilst at Derby County, leading the rams to the finals of the Championship play-offs at the end of last season and he has steered the side into a force which could easily be fighting for automatic promotion this season, judging by their performances this term so far.

His managerial skills haven’t escaped the attention of Newcastle United however and the bookies are optimistic that he will be returning to the north-east for a second time, having managed Middlesbrough before the England national team came calling.

Following his unsuccessful stint with the Three Lions, McClaren left these shores and led FC Twente to the Netherlands championship, following this with a relatively successful stint at Derby.

Remi Garde sits alongside McClaren at the top of the betting market, the former Lyon manager leaving the French Ligue 1 club last year. Garde is available for 5/1 with BetVictor, the Frenchman seeing the money heading in his direction in the last few days.

Tim Sherwood has seen his price fall to 7/1 and Glenn Hoddle remains a slightly distant possibility at 10/1 given that he has been absent from management for some time.
