Australian fast bowler Johnson impressed at Cardiff in 2009, and spearheads the Aussies' bowling attack for first Ashes Test against England
The wait is almost over for cricket fans, as arguably the most prestigious spectacle in the sport, the Ashes, is finally upon us, beginning on July 8th.
While home fans England will be quietly confident ahead of the famous Test series, following some good displays in the short form of the game in particular, Australia go into it as odds-on favourites to win overall at 2/5 with the likes of SkyBet and BetVictor, and thus retain the urn.
The Aussies, meanwhile, are even-money favourites to take the spoils in the first Test at Cardiff, and one man in particular will be looking to replicate his fine form the last time the two nations met here.
Veteran left-arm slinger Mitchell Johnson is back in Wales and raring to go. He has become the scourge of England in recent times, after taking the most wickets for his side against them in the last two series in Australia, including a whopping 37 dismissals last time out.
This year’s Ashes, like in 2009, begins at Cardiff’s SWALEC Stadium, where Johnson last highly impressed with the ball as the hosts narrowly snatched a draw. The paceman took unrivalled first innings figures of 3/87, and he is 11/4 with bet365, Betfred and Paddy Power, amongst others, to do so again.
Fiery Johnson, now 33, meanwhile, is a fabulous 4/1 price with Betway to be the best bowler from both sides in this match.
The Queensland-born Aussie is also in great form coming into this series, having recently taken eight wickets across four innings in Tests with the West Indies, and took figures of 4/53 against county club Kent in a pre-Ashes warm-up match.
With Johnson, alongside the likes of Mitchell Starc, and potentially Ryan Harris and Josh Hazlewood, Australia certainly have a potent bowling attack to trouble England, so back the former to lead the way.
