Tim Sherwood favourite to be next Aston Villa manager

The smart money is on Sherwood to be next Villa manager

Let's face it, the sacking of Paul Lambert was hardly a huge surprise was it. Villa's 2-0 defeat to Hull City was the final straw, however will Tim Sherwood be the man to lift them out of the relegation zone?

Lambert signed a four year contract following an impressive start to the season which saw Villa win all but one of their first four matches, however things quickly turned sour and the midweek defeat to Hull saw them drop into the relegation zone.

This proved to be the final straw for the club bosses and the search is now on for someone who can rescue Villa’s season. That man could be Tim Sherwood should the betting market be believed.

Whoever takes the reins has a huge task ahead of them. Villa have scored just 12 league goals this season so far and with just five top flight wins to their name, a scrap for survival is very much on the cards.

Will it be too little too late however? How do you turn around a side which has managed ten goals less than anyone else in the division. Well the punters would seem to believe that Tim Sherwood is the man best qualified for such a task, 888sport offering best odds of 3/4 for his appointment at Villa Park.

Glenn Hoddle hasn’t been in management for many years, however he is Sherwood’s main rival at 4/1. Michael Laudrup remains in contention but only just, his agent stating quite clearly that there would be a problem releasing him from his current side Lekhwiya.
