Bookies.com previews all the latest action at the US Open tennis
With the US Open tennis reaching the business end of the tournament, Bookies.com previews the action and latest odds, with Novak Djokovic reaching the quarter-finals after defeating Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut.
The Serbian is odds-on 4/5 favourite with PaddyPower to win the tournament, while British hope Andy Murray is 11/2 with BoyleSports.
Murray magic starting to show
After coming through the first three rounds relatively unscathed, the Scotsman had to fight flu to progress and beat Thomaz Bellucci in straight sets.
“It was very important today,” Murray said after his comprehensive win.
“My last match was extremely tough physically and mentally. It was a lot cooler today, which helps, and to get the win in three sets.
“I get a day to recover now and get ready for the next one.”
Richard Gasquet with shot of the tournament
The Frenchman flourished his racket like a wand with the winning shot of the match against Australian Bernard Tomic, who, in a truly great sporting gesture whipped the crowd into a standing ovation after Gasquet wrapped his racket around the post of the net for to play the winning point, after a well-executed Tomic drop-shot.
“Bernard is a great friend of mine,” Gasquet, who is 7/5 with 888.com to beat Tomas Berdych next, said of the play. “I think I can do it with him. You don’t do it with guys you don’t like.”
Swiss duo still going strong
Both Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka have made it through to the fourth round, doing their country proud, after some exemplary tennis so far. They are 11/4 and 16/1 respectively with Coral to win the tournament and the latter is looking to add to his French Open title earlier in the year.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on-song so far
French hope Tsonga has reached the quarter-final with some of the most consistent tennis of the tournament so far, having won each of his matches in straight sets.
He faces a big test as defending champion Marin Cilic prepares to face him next time out and while the latter has won the last three matches against the Frenchman, Tsonga is still the 8/11 favourite with BoyleSports. Cilic is 50/1 with the same bookie to retain his crown.
Sister showdown in ladies quarter-final
In the ladies half of the draw, Serena and Venus Williams prepare to do battle, with the former looking to make it a hat-trick of consecutive wins at Flushing Meadows, as well as a calendar year Grand Slam of titles.
She is heavily odds-on at 1/9 with SkyBet to beat her sister and unsurprisingly the odds-on 8/15 tournament favourite with Coral.
Brit star Johanna Konta exceeding expectations
It has been a terrific tournament for 24-year-old Sydney-born British player Konta, though she now faces a tough test against established force Petra Kvitova.
Konta was outstanding as she beat Wimbledon finalist Garbine Muguruza (ranked ninth in the world), and her odds of 4/1 with bet365 to follow up with a win over her Czech opponent could well be worth considering. With Murray also going strong in the men’s, Konta is a big hope for Great Britain in the ladies draw.
Bookies.com recommended bet: Konta to beat Kvitova @ 4/1 with bet365
