When will Liverpool FC become Premier League title favourites?

Reds closing the odds gap on Manchester City, with Chelsea the other team in the title mix

UPDATE 24.09.18
Liverpool continue to shorten to win the Premier League title after yet another win, with a 3-0 victory coming against Southampton with the minimum of fuss.

BetVictor are the bravest with their 15/8 quote about the Reds winning their first title since 1990, with Jurgen Klopp’s side being handed a stern test on Saturday when they head to Stamford Bridge.

Bet365 go 8/11 about a Manchester City side who steamrollered Cardiff City, with Kevin de Bruyne and Benjamin Mendy currently on the sidelines although Riyad Mahrez came off the bench to score a brace in south Wales.

Chelsea’s goalless draw at West Ham means that they have drifted in the market, with BetVictor prepared to offer 16/1 about the Blues and Maurizio Sarri admitted that his team might not be up to the standard of the two sides above them.

Tottenham are 50/1 and Manchester United can be found at 66/1 in places, with Arsenal 80/1 despite enjoying four straight wins after suffering two losses.

The 2018/19 Premier League looked like being won by Manchester City or Liverpool before the season began and both teams have started in a typical fashion.

City have won four and drawn one of their five top flight games to date, dropping points at Molineux although it’s clear that Wolves are going to be a strong team in the division this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are still favourites to retain their crown although their odds have drifted slightly since the campaign began, with Ladbrokes going 8/11 that they are triumphant again.

The reason for the drift is the simple fact that Liverpool have won all five of their matches since the season started. Away wins at Palace, Leicester and Tottenham suggest that the challenge from Merseyside this season is going to be very real.

Bet365 have a best price 9/4 that Jurgen Klopp’s side are celebrating at the end of the season with a first title win since 1990 and it’s clear that the defence and goalkeeper are proving to be a good deal steelier than previous incarnations.

Some are suggesting this is a two-horse race and that might prove to be the case, although Chelsea have a 100% record to date and perhaps the Blues can also stay the pace.

Eden Hazard has the bit between his teeth and is trading at 10/1 to be the Premier League top scorer this season, while his Chelsea team are 11/1 with BetVictor to secure the title during Maurizio Sarri’s first season at the club.

Manchester United have bounced back from two recent defeats to record victories away to Burnley and Watford, with bet365 going 33/1 that the Red Devils win the title.

Tottenham are out to 40/1 for honours after losing to Liverpool, while Arsenal are 80/1 despite three consecutive wins under Unai Emery. They’ve also played matches against Arsenal and Chelsea.

All odds were correct at time of posting.
