Liverpool's 3-0 defeat to Manchester United heaped further pressure onto former Anfield hero Brendan Rodgers as his Reds side fall to tenth in the Premier League table.
The Liverpool manager is now odds-on to last to the end of the season, Ladbrokes offering just 5/6 for last season’s hero to be seeking alternative employment before the final whistle of this season’s Premier League.
Prior to kick-off on Sunday, Rodgers was just 5/1 to be the next top-flight gaffer to vacate his post and he was heavily backed throughout the match, his price halving to just 5/2 by the time the final whistle was blown.
He remains second favourite in the “Next manager to leave” betting after Leicester City’s Nigel Pearson at 3/1.
There is certainly a huge amount of pressure on the Reds boss to leave, especially now that his side are now 15/2 to finish the season with a top four position. They clash with Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday, their price falling from 1/3 to just 4/7 for them to go through to the competition’s semi-finals from this match.
Rodger’s price fell with every goal in Sunday’s clash, United eventually winning to the tune of 3-0 with goals from Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Robin van Persie. This result gifted the Red Devils a sixth successive win and placed Rodgers in a very precarious position going into the Capital One Cup quarter finals on Wednesday evening.
