JETS vs. BILLS ODDS

The race for second place between the Jets and Bills hasn’t always been their AFC East reality, there was a time when both teams would battle back and forth to sit on the division throne.

The QB position has seen some strong names earlier in this rivalry – Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, and Joe Namath – but fell off really for both teams as they’ve chased Tom Brady and the Patriots since 2001. It’s a heated rivalry fueled by two teams playing in rough Northeast conditions.

This one is close between the Bills and Jets, neither team has really pulled away from the other over time. While Buffalo leads the ATS battle 63-55, the last two decades have shown how hard it is to predict these games from a betting standpoint.

The Jets are 21-18 against the Bills since 2000, and bettors have seen a slight edge to the Bills over the last couple of seasons; since 2014 Buffalo is 7-4 against the Jets, with four wins coming by double digits.

There doesn’t seem to be much of a home field advantage either when considering odds, the Jets split their four victories between their house and Buffalo.

JETS vs. BILLS History

The bitter blood between these squads was at its height when both teams were competing for the playoffs.

O.J. Simpson eclipsing Jim Brown’s rushing record while blowing out the Jets was a huge moment, as was the Bills being the lone team to beat Joe Namath during the Jets’ run to the Super Bowl.

Beyond the lone playoff game, there were two other games in the 80’s with playoff implications. But since the rise of the Patriots, both teams have been scrambling to find consistency at the QB position. Fast forward to this year, and both Josh Allen of the Bills and Sam Darnold of the Jets look like the real deal. At least compared to Mark Sanchez and JP Losman.

JETS vs. BILLS Memorable Games

One of the biggest games in the history of the Jets-Bills rivalry has to be the 1981 AFC Wild Card game. It was truly a tale of two halves, as Buffalo looked like it would coast to victory.

Despite jumping ahead 24-0 over the Jets, Buffalo allowed NY to crawl back in the game. The Jets cut the lead to 31-24 and had a chance to tie the game late. But the Bills picked off Richard Todd from the Jets to escape with the victory.

In 1973 the Bills crushed the Jets to the tune of 34-6. It was more than just a blowout, as O.J. had himself a day. Simpson would eclipse Brown’s rushing record of 2000 yards in a season during that game.

In 2015, the Bills and Jets faced off on Thursday Night Football. Rex Ryan came over as head coach of the Jets to run the Bills, bringing with him a couple of former Jets players and coaches.

One player was IK Enemkpali, who was signed just one day after breaking Jets QB Geno Smith’s jaw. Enemkpali was named captain that night, and tensions were super high all night.

JETS vs. BILLS Infamous Moments

In 1968 the Jets won all but one game on their way to winning the Super Bowl. For a team that dominated their opponents, it was a shock to see who they lost to in their only loss of the year. It was the Bills who managed to win just one game all season; that one.

The Bills were off to a hot start in 2008 but cooled off in the second half of the year. Two of their final losses came at the hands of the Jets, one in brutal fashion.

The Jets got a game-winning touchdown as the Bills were simply trying to run the clock out. QB JP Losman fumbled the ball on the snap, allowing the Jets to run it back.

Mark Sanchez returned the favor the following season. Sanchez wasted a 318-yard game on the ground from the running backs, by throwing 5 interceptions. Amazingly the game wound up going to overtime before the Bills prevailed.

JETS vs. BILLS Notable Players

Doesn’t get more notable than Rex Ryan taking coordinator Chan Gailey over from New York with him to Buffalo. Ryan traded for Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Gregg Williams also coached for both teams as he’s currently the defensive coordinator for the Jets. David Nelson, Percy Harvin, Brad Smith, and Aaron Maybin all played for both teams.
