The Christmas weekend of the 2021 NFL betting season may see more “Bah Humbug” moments than usual, and it’s got nothing to do with the NFL Week 16 odds. With the additional week to the regular season, this will be a week of reckoning for several teams.

It begins on Christmas Day, as two AFC teams on the fringe and in dire need of a big win must attempt to get a victory on the road against the NFC’s top two teams. The Cleveland Browns head to Green Bay to face Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, while the Indianapolis Colts head west for a matchup with Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals.

With five teams seemingly locked into the NFC Playoffs, that leaves eight teams fighting for the final two spots. The two teams in that bunch with the toughest Week 16 hill are the Vikings, who host the Rams, and Washington heading to Dallas.

There’s a lot to absorb when it comes to making your NFL picks on NFL Week 16 lines, so let’s dive in.

Thursday, Dec. 23

San Francisco 49ers at Tennessee Titans, 8:20 p.m. ET

Take a look at 49ers vs Titans odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Deebo Samuel and George Kittle make up one of the dynamic 1-2 punches in the NFL as the 49ers have won five of six. But it’s the run game that has allowed the team to flip the switch on the season. They’re averaging 160 rushing yards per game in those victories, compared to just 71 in the one defeat.

But can the 49ers run on the Titans? Tennessee ranks No. 2 in the NFL in rushing defense. The last two weeks it’s held the Jaguars and Steelers to a combined to 43 yards on the ground. The offense without Derrick Henry, however, has floundered – 20 points or less in four straight games after going at least over every time since Week 1.

Saturday, Dec. 25

Cleveland Browns at Green Bay Packers, 4:30 p.m. ET

Take a look at Browns vs Packers odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

The Browns couldn’t get it done on Monday vs. the Raiders without a plethora of starters but should be back at full strength for this must-win at Lambeau Field. The offense has moved the ball as well as any unit, but getting into the end zone is another matter. Cleveland ranks No. 5 in the NFL in yards per game but only 20th in scoring. That said, the last three weeks prior to their protocol game, the Browns have scored TDs on every red zone trip. The Packers defense ranks 29th in red-zone TD percentage.

The Packers offense has weapons, the defense ranks top 10 vs. both the pass and the run and it has all come together at Lambeau Field. Green Bay is not only unbeaten at home, but every win has been by 8-18 points. The only victory not in double figures was vs. the Rams, but even there, the Packers led 36-17 going into the fourth quarter. This game opened at less than a touchdown in Green Bay’s favor in NFL Week 16 odds.

Indianapolis Colts at Arizona Cardinals, 8:15 p.m. ET

Take a look at Colts vs Cardinals odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Since starting the season 0-3, the Colts have won eight of 11, with two of those losses in overtime. While some potential-playoff teams hunker down defensively, the Colts have surged thanks to the offense. Indy has scored at least 30 points in seven of the last nine games but showcased a capable defense in last Saturday’s 27-17 win over the Patriots (was 20-0 going into the fourth quarter).

TThe Cardinals rank in the top 10 in both yards gained and yards allowed, but they’re just like most teams when it comes to turnovers – when they win that turnover battle, they win the game. Something for local fans to consider when wagering on Arizona sports betting sites: The Cardinals are 9-1 when the offense commits one turnover or none and 1-3 when it’s two or more. Indianapolis ranks No. 1 in in the NFL turnover margin.

This game has huge playoff implications in both the AFC and NFC and should see plenty of action at top betting sites, including at BetMGM, where you can get a $1000 risk-free bet using the BetMGM bonus code.

Sunday, Dec. 26

New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m. ET

Take a look at Giants vs Eagles odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

The Giants offense is not holding up its end of the bargain. New York is 3-1 when it scores over 21 points, but the team has only done that four times; it’s 1-9 when it doesn’t hit that threshold. The lone win with fewer than 21 points – a 13-7 victory in Week 12 vs. the Eagles. Mike Glennon hasn’t been a big help in relief of injured QB Daniel Jones, with three TDs and seven INTs over four starts.

Since going all-in on the run game, the Eagles are 5-2, with at least 176 rushing yards in all six games, including piling up a whopping 516 yards overall vs. Washington on Tuesday. The Giants figured it out a few weeks ago, however. Philly rushed for 208 yards but forced four Jalen Hurts INTs. New York has won the last two meetings after losing eight straight in this series.

New York betting sites won’t be live yet to take online wagers in this game, but keep Giants fans should be on the lookout for early registration offers soon, including from BetMGM New York.

Los Angeles Rams at Minnesota Vikings, 1 p.m. ET

Take a look at Rams vs Vikings odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Teams that can’t slow Matthew Stafford get beat. The Rams are 9-2 when he tosses two TDs. Minnesota has allowed the fourth-most pass TDs. Turnovers have been the other key to success for the Rams. They’re 0-4 when they lose the turnover battle and 10-0 when they don’t.

It all comes down to the fourth quarter for the Vikings. All but one of its games in 2021 have been decided by eight or fewer points. On the flip side, only three Rams games have been decided by eight or less. Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson could find connections against L.A.’s 25th-ranked pass defense.

Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots, 1 p.m. ET

Take a look at Bills vs Patriots odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

The Bills are fighting for a postseason berth with a 7-6 record and in the midst of a two-game losing streak. That said, this is a team that still ranks No. 1 in yards allowed and No. 6 in scoring. Buffalo is just 1-4 against teams with current winning records.

The Bills have the No. 1 defense in terms of yards allowed, but the Patriots are No. 3 at 307.5, less than 20 yards over Buffalo’s league-leading mark. The last time these teams met, the Pats passed the ball just three times in windy conditions and won a 14-10 slugfest. Since late 2000, the Bills have beaten the Patriots just six times. New England is a narrow favorite in NFL Week 16 odds and could wrap up the AFC East with a win.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers, 1 p.m. ET

Take a look at Buccaneers vs Panthers odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Tampa Bay has not had a problem with Carolina with Tom Brady as QB, going 2-0 with wins by 14 and 23 points. That’s been the trend nearly all season for the Buccaneers, who lead the NFL in yards and points despite last week’s humbling shutout at the hands of the Saints. Brady will be without top target Chris Godwin for the remainder of the season, however, after the WR suffered a torn ACL in Week 15.

The Panthers are 0-3 with Newton under center but at least the defense ranks No. 2 vs. the pass and only three times have they allowed over 320 total yards. The Bucs are much more beatable on the road, with a 4-3 record with three of those wins coming down to the wire. That said, the best sportsbooks in the US have this as the biggest spread in NFL Week 16 odds.

Jacksonville Jaguars at New York Jets, 1 p.m. ET

Take a look at Jaguars vs Jets odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

The Jaguars have moved on from coach Urban Meyer aftrt 13 games full of chaos and a lack of on-field success. First step is getting Trevor Lawrence and the offense going. The Jaguars have scored 17 points or less for eight games in a row, and the first game without Meyer ended in a 14-point loss to the just-as-hapless Texans. This could be the spot for a positive movement, facing a Jets team that’s allowed at least 30 points in seven of the last nine games.

The Jets offense has had moments of solid play and is tangibly better than last year. In 2020, the Jets ranked last in the NFL in yards and in points. This year, despite lack of a run game and injuries through all skill positions, the Jets rank 29th in points but 22nd in yards. New York scored 24 points last time out, the most it’s put up in six weeks, though it still led to defeat.

Detroit Lions at Atlanta Falcons, 1 p.m. ET

Take a look at Lions vs Falcons odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

The Lions have scored 20-plus points just twice since Week 1 and both times won against highly favored opponents, including the NFC-leading Cardinals in Week 15. Despite the overall lack of success or points, five of the last six games the Lions either won, tied or lost by a FG or less. Local backers at Michigan sports betting sites have cashed in on this team this season.

The inconsistent Falcons haven’t won two games in a row but have lost two straight just once as well, to the strong Cowboys and Patriots. The team ranks bottom-10 in yards gained and in yards allowed, but are 3-0 when they win the turnover battle.

Los Angeles Chargers at Houston Texans, 1 p.m. ET

Take a look at Chargers vs Texans odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

If the Chargers are to be successful, it’s when their offense does what it does. When L.A. managed 25 points, it’s 7-1, the lone blemish last week’s 34-28 OT loss to the Chiefs. Score under 25 and the record is 1-5. Conversely, the Texans are 0-8 when allowing 25 points.

While the Texans rank in the bottom-5 of the NFL in in rush offense, pass offense and rush defense, they’re 15th vs. the pass and are actually 2-0 when an opponent throws for over 302 yards. If only the run defense forced teams to throw. Justin Herbert has thrown for over 303 yards six times, with five wins.

Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals, 1 p.m. ET

Take a look at Ravens vs Bengals odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Baltimore owns one of the bottom pass defenses in the NFL, allowing 280 ypg through the air. But the Ravens have limited the last three opponents to a modest 229 ypg yards through the air. It’s a feast-or-famine defense, with four opponents passing for 340-plus and six for 225 or less.

Cincinnati took advantage of Baltimore’s issues on Oct. 24, pouring on 41 points in a road route of the Ravens. QB Joe Burrow is averaging 300 yards per game in two career meetings with Baltimore. Oddly, Cincinnati is 3-1 when Burrow passes for over 345 yards, 3-1 when he’s held to under 200 yards, and 2-5 when he finishes in a more normal range.

Chicago Bears at Seattle Seahawks, 4:05 p.m. ET

Take a look at Bears vs Seahawks odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Rookie QB Justin Fields is 3-9 as the starter this year, but his stats show no trends. Instead, it’s the defense that determines the success of the team. Chicago is 3-2 when holding opponents to under 280 yards of total offense and a brutal 1-8 when they hit that mediocre mark. Fortunately, the Seahawks have failed to hit 280 in nearly half their games.

But Seattle’s offense has turned it around lately. It scored just 25 total points over a three-game stretch before going for 30 and 33 the last two, both wins over playoff contenders. Not coincidentally, the team’s two best rushing days came in those two victories. Seattle’s offense didn’t get going vs. the Rams, but Chicago’s run defense ranks 23rd.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Kansas City Chiefs, 4:25 p.m. ET

Take a look at Steelers vs Chiefs odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Ben Roethlisberger has done a good job of not turning the ball over, and it’s showing up in the standings. Pittsburgh has lost all five games he’s tossed an INT and is 7-1 in the others, the lone defeat a 41-37 shootout with the Chargers. In his last five meetings with the Chiefs, he’s thrown 11 TDs and just one INT.

Patrick Mahomes has faced the Steelers just once but threw for 326 yards and six TDs in that game. He had thrown just two TDs over Kansas City’s last three games before erupting for 410 yards and three scores in last week’s win over the Chargers. While the offense has been up and down, the defense has allowed just 12.7 ppg the last six weeks.

Denver Broncos at Las Vegas Raiders, 4:25 p.m. ET

Take a look at Broncos vs Raiders odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

While the offense has been hit-and-miss all season, the defense continues to get it done on its end, surrendering under 20 points to six of the last eight opponents. Forcing turnovers has given the offense the boost it’s needed; Denver is 6-0 when forcing two of them and 1-7 when not.

The Raiders have won the last three meetings with the Broncos and scored 32-37 points in each instance. That aligns with this season’s results, as well. Las Vegas is unbeaten when it managed over 20 points and has just one win when held under that mark, and that was against a protocol-ravaged Browns.

Washington Football Team at Dallas Cowboys, 8:20 p.m. ET

Take a look at Washington vs Cowboys odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

WFT had won four straight before its playoff hopes were all but dashed with back-to-back losses to the Cowboys and Eagles. Still, the defense has much improved (30 ppg allowed the first seven weeks of 2021). Dallas’ weakness is pass defense, allowing 263.1 ypg through the air, and Washington is 3-2 when Taylor Heinicke passes for over 250.

These teams just played two weeks ago, a 27-20 Cowboys win in Landover, but Dallas led 24-0 by halftime. Each team’s defense scored, and the Cowboys held WFT to just 224 total yards. When they defense can do that, it pairs with an offense that ranks No. 2 in the NFL in both yards and points (behind the Buccaneers in each). That’s a tough combination.

Monday, Dec. 27

Miami Dolphins at New Orleans Saints, 8:15 p.m. ET

Take a look at Dolphins vs Saints odds, injury report, betting lines and more.

Miami has been to the playoffs twice in the last 20 years. It has a chance to add to that total this season, but with games vs. the Titans and Patriots to end it, this might be a must-win game. The Dolphins are in his position thanks to a current six-game win streak. Only one opponent has passed for over 210 yards during the winning run. New Orleans has been held to under 215 pass yards in four of its last five games.

The Saints had snapped a five-game losing skid by rolling last week, but that was vs. the Jets. The energy was turned up another notch in a 9-0 shutout win over Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football. Alvin Kamara has been a key to Saints success offensively, but the Dolphins rank above average in both rushing yards and receiving yards allowed to RBs. A bigger issue: Saints QBs Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian both went on COVID list Thursday and rookie Ian Book will start. The line moved from Saints -2.5 to Dolphins +1.5 with the news.
