After taking a week off following Dustin Poirier’s upset victory over Conor McGregor, the UFC returns this weekend, kicking off an eight-week slate of events. In Saturday’s main event of UFC Fight Night 184, former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem takes on former Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov in a pivotal bout with possible title implications.

This is far from a one-fight UFC betting card though. Every other bout on the main card is an important bout for its division, so let’s get to the bets.

Cory Sandhagen and Macy Chiasson to win parlay at -127 with DraftKings

Clay Guida to defeat Michael Johnson by decision at +300 with BetMGM

UFC Fight Night 184: Overeem vs Volkov Prediction

The main event for Fight Night 184 (or UFC Vegas 18) features two of the most experienced fighters in the division. Overeem is a future Hall of Famer, and though he’s only 32, Volkov already has 40 fights in his career. Given that, we can comfortably extrapolate what this fight will look like. Both men are primarily considered kickboxers but for Overeem that undersells his ability.

Overeem is one of the most accomplished kickboxers to ever enter MMA and is also a highly skilled grappler. In fact, as Overeem has aged and his chin has started to fade, he has relied more on that aspect of his game and that should serve him well here. While not lost on the ground, Overeem has the wrestling to secure takedowns and once on top, he’s a highly efficient ground-and-pounder.

Given Volkov’s general lack of power (by heavyweight standards) The Reem should survive on his feet and flourish on the floor. Bet on Overeem to win at +165 with Caesars.

UFC Fight Night 184: Ferreira vs Dariush Prediction

This is probably the best fight on the entire card. Dariush has been somewhat of an underachiever in the UFC, a solidly ranked fighter who seems to lose in big moments. Meanwhile Ferreira is the dark horse in the lightweight division.

This is a rematch of a 2014 fight. Dariush won in a decision but things should go differently this time. Their first fight was dominated by Dariush’s wrestling, but in the years since Ferreira has become a much better defender of takedowns, even staving off noted wrestler Rustam Khabilov.

That means Dariush will be stuck fighting on the feet and, though he has power in his hands, Dariush lacks defense and is willing to brawl. Expect Ferriera to avenge one of his two professional losses. Ride Ferreira to win at -120 with William Hill.

UFC Fight Night 184: Sandhagen vs Edgar & Chiasson vs Reneau Predictions

This is a very straightforward parlay with two fighters who are highly likely to win. Cory Sandhagen is taking on Frankie Edgar in the co-main event. Edgar is a former champion and future Hall of Famer, but he’s well past his prime and taking on one of the best young killers in the division. Similarly, Chiasson is facing Marion Reneau, who has been a staple of the women’s division for many years but is 43 and on a three-fight losing streak.

In both fights, the parlayed fighters are bigger, stronger, faster and younger than their opponents. Upsets in either case would be shocking, so parlaying the odds gets you a better price. Grab this Sandhagen-Chiasson parlay at -127 with DraftKings.

UFC Fight Night 184: Guida vs Johnson Prediction

This is a fade of Michael Johnson. “The Menace” is a fighter with a world of potential who never realized most of it and seems destined to never do so. Meanwhile, Guida is the perennial overachiever. Even in his late 30s, “The Carpenter” is still bringing his frenetic, high-paced style to the cage and still making his opponents work for their supper.

Against Johnson, Guida might get picked apart on the feet by the sharper striker. However, it’s equally possible that Guida will grab a hold of Johnson and grind him against the fence for 15 minutes. At +300, it’s worth taking a shot on Guida to will himself to an ugly win over a man who has often snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Wager on Guida to win by decision at +300 with BetMGM.
