The post-LeBron rebuild continues in Cleveland. They didn’t do much to upgrade a Cavaliers team that won 19 games a year ago and will bank on their young talent making a leap under first year NBA head coach John Beilein. They’re nowhere close to competing, but the hope is it gets better in Year 2 without King James. It can’t get worse.
Here are the key odds available and how you should bet them:
Cavaliers Win-Total Betting
The Line: 23.5 with 888sport
Lost in the Cavs’ abysmal 19-win season was an 8-8 stretch between Feb. 11 and March 20. Collin Sexton was excellent over the season’s final two months, and rookie Darius Garland should be a significant contributor. Cedi Osman is a solid scoring option, and a healthy Love should do enough to get the Cavs over this win total. But just barely.
The Bet: This is a shaky bet at best, especially if they go into tank mode late in the season.
Cavaliers Central Division Odds
The Line: +25000 with DraftKings
The Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers are the class of the Central, while the Pistons and Bulls should be more competitive this season. The Cavaliers are locked into fifth place in the Central.
The Bet: Even at these long odds, there’s no point in considering this bet.
Cavaliers Eastern Conference Odds
The Line: +20000 with SugarHouse
The Cavaliers were mainstays atop the Eastern Conference with James, but those days are a distant memory. It will be a while before the Cavaliers are playing late into May with a chance to get back to the Finals.
The Bet: This is one to stay away from.
Cavaliers NBA Title Odds
The Line: +50000 with 888sport
The Cavaliers needed LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love to earn the franchise’s first championship. It’s safe to say Sexton, Garland and Love won’t be able to repeat 2016’s historic season.
The Bet: For obvious reasons, this is a bet to stay far away from.
Best Cavaliers Player Prop Bets
Back and shoulder injuries forced Love to miss 60 games last season, and he hasn’t played a fully healthy season since 2016. Still, he’s just 31 years old and is still the Cavs’ $120 million man. Maybe we see a rejuvenated Love under Beilein and with the talented young Cavs guards.
The Bet: The five-time All-Star is a prime candidate for a bounce-back season, so getting him at these odds feels like good value. Don’t forget how dominant a healthy Love can be, especially as a team’s top option.
