Giants NFL Draft Odds: Which Player Will They Take At No. 4?

With the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Giants are in prime position to add a critical piece around QB Daniel Jones and RB Saquon Barkley. There are a lot of holes to fill before New York can be seen by NFL betting enthusiasts as a contender in the competitive NFC, but this is a good place to start.

FanDuel has posted odds as to which rookie New York adds with its first-round draft pick.

What the Giants Need

The Giants have their quarterback and running back of the future, but without an offensive line, neither of them could make many plays in 2019. Their starting tackles allowed more pressures than any other duo in the NFL. They rectified the right tackle situation by signing Cameron Fleming to a one-year deal from Dallas. Left tackle is the top offensive priority for now.

New York’s defense ranked 20th vs. the run and 28th vs. the pass, so there was work to be done at all three levels. They spent big on a new starting cornerback (James Bradberry) and linebacker (Blake Martinez) and franchised DL Leonard Williams, but depth and talent can be improved across the board.

Who Will Be There At No. 4

It’s easier to first figure out who won’t be available at No. 4. That would be LSU QB Joe Burrow and Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young. The No. 3 pick is more up in the air, but as far as the Giants are concerned, if it’s Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa, every player New York might want would still on the board.

That means every offensive lineman will be there, a shutdown corner will be there, and a premier playmaking linebacker will be there. For New York, that’s a good problem to have.

Huge offensive lineman Mekhi Becton of Louisville might have the best NFL left tackle potential on the board.

The Pick

The Giants have skill players worth leaning on, but in the trenches New York is a bottom-tier team. The Giants allowed 119 QB hits and ranked 19th in yards per rush – with Saquon Barkley. That needs to change, and the Giants need to go offensive line at No. 4, even if immediate-impact defenders like Jeff Okudah and Isaiah Simmons are still on the board.

When it comes to potential and product, Mekhi Becton may have the highest ceiling. He’s a mammoth 6-7, 364 pounds but is considered light and skilled on his feet – the best comparison his college coach could come up with was Shaquille O’Neal. He may need a little more work to get into form, but long-term, Becton could anchor the O-line for the next decade. Make your bet now at FanDuel.

Seeking a darkhorse? Andrew Thomas of Georgia is climbing the charts and may have more immediate upside at left tackle then Becton. If the Giants don’t believe Becton has the skills in the new offense of first-year head coach Joe Judge, Thomas might be the guy. And he’s sitting at +1300 right now.
