Madison Keys heads into yet another Grand Slam tournament as an outside bet to win the women’s singles title.

But this fall might just be the moment she finally converts strong bursts of form into a major victory.

Keys, 24, was tipped for greatness when she hit the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) scene almost a decade ago but is yet to fully match up to her early potential.

Indeed, the American has labored with form and injuries over the years but appears in a good position this August heading into the U.S. Open.

That’s why bookmakers have slashed their price on Keys winning the Flushing Meadows title as they anticipate the Rock Island star’s run to the final.

Keys’ Odds to Win U.S. Open Drop

Keys has seen her U.S. Open title odds shoot to +1600 with William Hill off the back of 7-5, 7-6 Western and Southern Open (Cincinnati Masters) final triumph over Svetlana Kuznetsova on Sunday.

For Keys, it was her second WTA title of the year and the first hard-court final she has made since losing to Sloane Stephens in the 2017 U.S. Open.

Her triumph in Cincinnati has pushed Keys into the sixth favorite for the U.S. Open this fall. And the fact 888Sport opened their tennis betting market with Keys as a +2500 outsider shows just how far she’s come.

Bookies Wary of Keys Revival

There are plenty of reasons why you should consider Keys a worthwhile bet to win her first Grand Slam title next month.

After all, she didn’t just reach the final in 2017 but last year made it to the semi-finals, where she was beaten 6-2, 6-4 by eventual champion Naomi Osaka.

Keys has made the quarters or better in five of the last eight Grand Slams. Yes, she lost in the second round of Wimbledon 2019 but the grass is not her surface. Being able to find form out of nowhere is a hallmark of a strong tennis player and Keys has that in abundance.

Keys’ Rivals Look Weary

Meanwhile, her title rivals are also in woeful form. Simona Halep crashed out in the early rounds of both the Rogers Cup (Canadian Open) and Cincinnati Masters — with Keys dealing the Romanian a three-set defeat in the latter.

Ashleigh Barty bombed in the Canadian Open, while Karolina Pliskova has not gone past the quarter-final stage of a tournament since winning the Eastbourne title back in June.

Serena Williams had to retire in the Canadian Open final due to injury.

And it’s this potential paucity of competition that could help Keys achieve her goal in New York.

Bianca Andreescu Worth Considering

The lucky champion against Williams in Toronto this month was Bianca Andreescu, who decided against playing in Cincinnati after winning the Canadian title.

Andreescu’s U.S. Open odds were floating around the +4000 mark at the start of August but she is now +1600 and looking good to challenge this year, despite being seeded 15th.
