The Battle of L.A. resumes at Staples Center Sunday. And the latest showdown between the Lakers and Clippers might offer a preview of just how far each team can advance in the Western Conference playoffs.
The Lakers will be the “road” team against their same-city rivals in a 3:30 p.m. clash that will be featured on the bookies.com-sponsored NBACast.
The game will also air on ABC.
The Clippers have gotten the better of the Lakers in their two previous meetings this season. Kawhi Leonard scored 30 points in a 112-102 opening night victory. Leonard followed that by besting Anthony Davis, LeBron James & Co. with 35 points in a memorable 111-106 Christmas Day triumph.

The game Sunday marks the first matchup between the teams since the Clippers edged the Lakers at the trade deadline by snagging Marcus Morris from the Knicks. The Clippers subsequently secured another off-the-court triumph by convincing Reggie Jackson to join “L.A. Our Way” over the Purple and Gold after Jackson obtained his release by the Pistons.
Oddsmakers have installed the Clippers as 2-point favorites Sunday, while the game total sits at 225.5. The Clippers are -136 on the moneyline, while the Lakers are +115. All of these prices are available at PointsBet.
Fans of NBA betting can follow the action Wednesday via the NBACast, co-hosted by NBA experts Nate Duncan and Danny Leroux, starting at 3:30 p.m. The #NBACast offers live, in-game analysis, up-to-the second breakout stats and — as always — will take your questions. The NBACast is sponsored by Bookies.com.
The Lakers and Clippers are loaded with veterans and have been headed for not only this long-scheduled clash, but for a likely showdown in the postseason. They do have one more regular-season game remaining after the game on Sunday — an April 9 meeting that was rescheduled following the death of Kobe Bryant in January.
The Los Angeles Lakers clinched their first playoff spot since 2013 and in impressive fashion by beating the Milwaukee Bucks Friday.
James scored 37 points in the Lakers’ 113-103 victory at home against Milwaukee Friday night. In addition to his offensive production, James delivered a stellar defensive performance in controlling Giannis Antetokounmpo after Davis struggled with the Greek Freak early. Antetokounmpo had 32 points in the loss to the Lakers but just five when he was matched up one-on-one with James.
"What was more impressive to me was his defense on Giannis," Lakers coach Frank Vogel said after the game. "Starting in the first half when A.D. was in foul trouble, we needed somebody to step up. For him to take on that assignment and still do what he did offensively is just an incredibly remarkable two-way performance… he's a basketball savant."
James would be a lock for MVP if it weren’t for Antetokounmpo. James is +1000 at DraftKings, while Antetokounmpo is -2000.
The Lakers at 48-13 are in solid position to win the Pacific Division. They hold a six-game edge over the Clippers in the loss column. The Lakers are -1000 at William Hill to win the division while the Clippers offer an interesting price at +650. The odds are bit tighter for which team will represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals. The Lakers are favored at +165 according to oddsmakers at BetMGM, while the Clippers are fetching +210 to win the West at bet365.
Bettors are seeing a tight race for the NBA championship between the Bucks, Clippers and Lakers. Milwaukee (53-10) may fall short in its quest for 70 victories but remains the favorite among oddsmakers to win the 2020 NBA Finals and stand at +240 at bet365. Meanwhile, the Lakers are +260 and the Clippers are +333 on the same site
The Clippers are a complete team of late for the first time this season and appear to be on the upswing as the regular season rolls to a close. They crushed the Houston Rockets 120-105 on Thursday as Leonard led a balanced attack with 25 points and have won six straight.
Under the tutelage of Doc Rivers, the Clippers are the rare Western Conference power that puts the primary focus on defense. Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell are among the betting favorites for Sixth Man of the Year. Williams has won it two years running. The pair gives the Clippers a bench as deep as any in the league, including that of the Lakers.
Harrell and Williams share +200 odds to win Sixth Man honors. The price for Williams can be found at 888sport. Harrell is +200 at DraftKings. Dennis Schroeder of the Hawks as emerged as the favorite at +110 on the same site.
