After a controversial Kentucky Derby finish, we head to the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland for the Preakness Stakes.

Kentucky Derby winner Country House will not participate in the Preakness Stakes, so horse racing betting fans won't see a Triple Crown winner this year.

Maximum Security, the horse who won the Kentucky Derby before replay overturned the decision, will also not be racing in the Preakness Stakes.

So which horses are worth consideration for backing in the 9.5-furlong race?

Improbable the Favorite

Improbable enters the Kentucky Derby as the odds-on favorite, given odds to win at +250 (5/2).

Those odds aren't too bad, considering Improbable finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby.

His fourth-place finish at Churchill Downs was actually the worst finish Improbable has seen in his last six races.

It does seem like Improbable has a solid chance to outperform the rest of the field, which only sees a handful of Kentucky Derby participants.

One interesting stat that stands out with Improbable is the time it took him to complete a 1 1/16m (8.5-furlong) race.

Improbable ran an 8.5-furlong in just 1:41.18, which is the fastest time any Preakness Stakes horse has completed an 8.5-furlong race.

Other top favorites include War of Will with odds to win at +400 (4/1), Alwaysmining at +800 (8/1) and Anothertwistafate +600 (6/1).

War of Will is a bit concerning, despite finding success early in the season. After winning three races in a row, War of Will has failed to finish within the Top 3 in his last two races.

Alwaysmining is a bit more intriguing of a pick, mainly because he is on a ridiculous winning streak.

Alwaysmining has won six races in a row, including a victory over Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes competitor Win Win Win.

Win Win Win currently has odds to win set at +1500 (15/1) but hasn't won a race since January of this year.

The Kentucky Derby snapped Win Win Win's streak of four straight races with a Top 3 finish, placing ninth in Churchill Downs.

Win Win Win did finish an 8.5-furlong race only about 80 seconds slower than Improbable's best time, so the potential is there.

Alwaysmining beat Win Win Win though, and finished an 8.5-furlong race only 1 second behind both Improbable and Win Win Win's best times.

Best Value Bet

The best value bet may be Anothertwistafate, as the odds reflect bookmakers' confidence in his racing ability.

Anothertwistafate has a 14.3 percent chance to win the Preakness Stakes based on implied probability.

Those are the third-highest odds of any horse in this race to win.

Anothertwistafate has seen back-to-back second-place finishes, including a loss to Preakness Stakes opponent Owendale.

Prior to the back-to-back second-place finishes, Anothertwistafate won three in a row so he knows how to win and compete near the top of a group.

The most interesting stat for Anothertwistafate is his finishing time in a 9-furlong race (1 1/8m).

He finished a 9-furlong race in an impressive 1:46.94 - that is the fastest time to complete a 9-furlong race out of any horse competing in the Preakness Stakes.

The Preakness Stakes is a 9.5-furlong race, so it seems that Anothertwistafate knows how to race in longer stretches.

Other value bets to consider include Warrior's Charge with odds at +1200 (12/1) and Owendale at +1000 (10/1).
