Demetrius Andrade will have no problem with Maciej Sulecki, but backing the American will cost you because Andrade is the -625 favorite to Sulecki’s +425 underdog price at bookmakers such as 888Sport in New Jersey.

Andrade is an amazingly talented boxer who simultaneously remains one of the most untested world titleholders in all the sport.

Nothing really changes about that on Saturday when Andrade, 31, from Providence, R.I., faces Polish middleweight Sulecki, 30, in a homecoming bout designed purely to pad the undefeated American’s record and perhaps get him a bit more air time on DAZN in preparation for more noteworthy fights down the line.

That’s because DAZN is currently invested in just about every middleweight with a championship pulse, this side of Jermall Charlo anyway, so keeping Andrade in step as a viable future dance partner for lineal champion Canelo Alvarez, former champ Gennadiy Golovkin and former titleholder Daniel Jacobs is supremely important to DAZN maintaining its 160-pound stranglehold.

Andrade Resume Breakdown

The most curious thing about Andrade is that he’s more respected for what he might do rather than what he’s actually done.

That’s because as heralded as the fighter has been over the years, Andrade has never really arrived. There’s never been that 'Aha' moment where he finally displays all that amazing potential of which he seems so capable.

Partly, that can be attributed to his apparent inability to secure top-flight opposition. The best win on his resume, in fact, was six years ago when he defeated Vanes Martirosyan by split-decision for a vacant junior middleweight title.

That’s right. Andrade’s best win is that guy Golovkin obliterated in just two rounds last year.

But fast-forward to today and that Martirosyan win seems like scaling Mount Everest, and I mean alone, armed only with a pocket knife, wearing a light sweater and flipflops, in comparison to the kinds of low-rent also-rans Andrade has faced since moving up to middleweight.

Because Andrade hasn’t faced any relevant middleweight since moving up in weight, even in securing the vacant WBO middleweight title against Walter Kautondokwa in October 2018. No, it wasn’t Andrade’s fault the original opponent, BJ Saunders, failed a prefight PED drug test which ended up getting the fighter stripped of his title and suspended.

But what’s gone on since is a case-study in promoters and networks finagling careers to make supposedly bigger fights down the line over more meaningful fights right now.

None of that changes this weekend.

On paper, Sulecki is promotable because he went 12 rounds with Jacobs and has won two straight. But the harsh reality is that Sulecki almost knocked out by Gabriel Rosado in his last fight, so the idea Sulecki has anything but a dumb luck chance against Andrade is laughable.
