Pep Guardiola was thwarted by Liverpool in his quest to win the 2017/18 Champions League, although Manchester City look sure to go well again in Europe’s premier club competition next season.

Riyad Mahrez is the notable arrival at the Etihad Stadium this term, although Bernard Mendy’s availability is like having a new player and Claudio Gomes could quickly break into the first team after arriving from PSG.

Last season’s City squad was arguably the best in Europe and there were some eye-catching performances during the group stage of the competition, with more expected from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling this time around.

Kevin de Bruyne should continue to boss the midfield, with Fernandinho playing a key role behind him and David Silva buzzing around and looking to be the supply line for Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

All things considered, we are happy to get with City who might not have to find a way past a Real Madrid side now managed by Julen Lopetegui, someone who has to contend without the departing Cristiano Ronaldo who signed for Juventus.

Juve themselves are a more fearsome outfit now that they have the former Manchester United winger in the ranks, while Barcelona can’t be discounted although it was a surprise to see them overcome by Roma after holding a 4-1 first leg advantage last time.

Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich are other teams trading at single figure odds, with Kylian Mbappe likely to continue for the former who also have Neymar pulling the strings.

Liverpool are making steps towards the elite teams within Europe and they are 12/1 for the Champions League title, although we’ll stick with the English champions next term.
