John Coleman saw his team agonisingly miss out on automatic promotion from League Two, with a goalless draw against Stevenage coupled with a late Bristol Rovers winner seeing Accrington drop into the play-offs.

Now Stanley have some serious work on their hands if they are to enjoy promotion, with AFC Wimbledon recording a slender 1-0 victory on Saturday night which means Neal Ardley’s team are favourites to meet Plymouth in the League Two play-off final.

Coleman wasn’t best pleased with the “roughhouse tactics” employed by Wimbledon in the first game and hope that his team can play their way to a second leg victory, something which can be earned when you see how Stanley finished the season.

However, it should be noted that Wimbledon have been highly effective away from home this season, with the London side winning ten and drawing eight of their away matches.

The Dons also claimed a 4-3 victory at Accrington during the regular season and certainly won’t want to sit back too much against a side that will be looking to get an early goal and restore parity in the tie.

These second leg matches can often get fraught and 73 goals were scored in 23 matches at the Crown Ground during the normal season which is well over an average of three.

Expect the same thing to apply in this match with the stakes high and Accrington ready to throw the kitchen sink in order to reach Wembley.
