Mark Johnston continues to fire in the winners and his ADELE looks overpriced at 8/1 for this evening’s 1m4f handicap at Ripon (due off 7.35pm).

The lightly-raced fully is the outsider of the six runners with some some firms , which is a little surprising given she is just the type to improve now she steps up to this sort of distance and is making her handicap debut off what looks a very fair mark of 75.

She failed to build on her debut second in a mile maiden at Thirsk last season in two subsequent runs, but recorded a personal best when second again on her reappearance over 1m2f at Chelmsford in May. She dominated that contest only to be headed inside the final furlong by the winner Covert Love, who has since franked the form by going on to land a hat-trick and is now rated 109.

The selection tried to make all when dropped back to an extended 1m1f at Carlisle on her next start, but her jockey Franny Norton set only an ordinary gallop and the race developed into more of a speed test, which wouldn’t have suited at all.

Norton is back in the saddle this afternoon and a more aggressive ride could pay dividends as the track often favours front runners, though another career best is probably required as she’s up against some progressive sorts, the best of whom may be William Haggas’ Rejaah, who won well on her Lingfield debut before finishing fourth on her handicap debut. She is just 3/1, though, whereas the selection is nearly three times those odds and that makes her worth a punt.
