Hull’s prospects of remaining in the Premier League have been boosted by consecutive wins against Crystal Palace and Liverpool. Few would have predicted that Steve Bruce’s team could claim six points from these matches, although the Tigers now effectively need one more win to probably be safe for another season.

Unfortunately for them, it won’t come on Monday against an Arsenal side looking to bank second place in the Premier League and also win the FA Cup final against Aston Villa. The Gunners had won eight consecutive matches before Reading and Chelsea shut up shop in respective matches and they look a backable price to get over the line in this one.

It’s a mark of respect for Arsenal that Chelsea defended manfully and played in a slightly negative fashion last weekend, with Arsene Wenger’s team struggling to break down a side who were happy to see out the match for a point.

Hull will also try and be obstinate in search of a third consecutive clean sheet, although whether they can cope with a potent Arsenal attack is another matter entirely.

A team with attacking weapons such as Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have to be taken seriously and the Gunners will be out for scoring some goals after being thwarted in their past two games.

This fixture ended 3-0 last season in favour of Arsenal and a repeat appears to be on the cards here, with Hull having played a midweek match where Liverpool were accommodating opponents.
