It might not sit well with Arsenal supporters that their team are no longer in the Champions League, although Arsene Wenger famously said that “once the fans have tasted caviar, it’s difficult to go back to sausage”.

It’s Wenger’s first season in the competition since becoming Arsenal manager although there are indications that the team will take the competition seriously and aim to “do a Manchester United” by winning it and qualifying for the Champions League.

Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud were on the bench for Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth and the likelihood is that last season’s main pairing will operate in tandem for this one.

Danny Welbeck and Alexandre Lacazette will be waiting in the wings to make an impact, while this could also be an opportunity for forgotten man Theo Walcott to shine against a Koln side who have had a rotten start to the campaign.

The Cologne side have lost all three Bundesliga matches and the way that the Cherries were obliterated at the Emirates suggests this will be one-way traffic on Thursday night.
