In addition to the chance of backing Manchester City on Tuesday night, there’s also the prospect of Atletico Madrid at the same odds 24 hours later.

Atletico put Barcelona away in the previous round and look seriously good prospect at the Vicente Calderon, with Diego Simeone’s side having won thirteen of their seventeen La Liga matches on home soil this term.

Indeed, the Madrid side are level on points with Barcelona as the domestic season nears a finish, with Los Colchoneros having enjoyed five straight wins since losing that quarter final first leg clash at the Nou Camp.

More pertinently, Atletico come into the match off the back of four straight clean sheets, with the defence nice and robust ahead of a clash against a Bayern team who are outright favourites to win the tournament.

Pep Guardiola’s side beat Benfica in the previous round although it wasn’t plain sailing for the German champions who drew 2-2 in Portugal after a 1-0 victory at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern are likely to have the lion’s share of possession in this first leg clash, with Xabi Alonso and Javi Martinez likely to return to the starting XI, while Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller have a first-class killer instinct in front of goal.

However, Atletico Madrid’s game is not based on possession and they have their own assassin in the form of Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman slayed Barca in the previous round and he can make a big impact once again.

The home side should defend like warriors where necessary and Diego Godin is as good a centre-half as you could want marshalling the team, especially as the Argentine is a master of the dark arts.
