It was all going swimmingly for Barcelona as Gerard Pique put them ahead in Saturday’s El Clasico although Real Madrid delivered a sting in the tail.

That victory at the Nou Camp probably won’t make a jot of difference to Barcelona’s title charge, although it does plant a seed of doubt ahead of a tough Champions League clash against a tough and stubborn Atletico Madrid side.

Barca aren’t perhaps the invincible side we were previously led to believe, with Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi all failing to score at the weekend, even if Messi could have had a penalty when Sergio Ramos felled him on the edge of the penalty area.

Luis Enrique can ill-afford a repeat on Tuesday night against opponents who will arrive with spoiling tactics although Diego Simeone’s side do sit second in La Liga table and just six points behind their opponents.

The Mattress Makers have a reputation for low-scoring encounters, although they hammered Real Betis 5-1 on Saturday, with Antoine Griezmann scoring a brace to bring his total to 27 for the campaign.

So Barca will have to be wary of the visitors attack, although we are still talking about a team who have racked up 55 goals in 16 La Liga matches.

The two matches featuring these teams have seen 2-1 victories for Barca on both occasions and we’re likely to see a few goals in this match. The Catalan side won’t want to go to the Vicente Calderon with an awkward scoreline and that calls for all-out attack.
