Liverpool v Manchester United predictably failed to live up to its billing on Monday night, although we shouldn’t expect Barcelona’s clash against Manchester City to have a scarcity of goals.

Barca have been one of the best teams in Europe over the past decade. They have scooped the Champions League title in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015, with Pep Guardiola in charge for the middle two triumphs and he’s now overseeing a different project.

The Spaniard will hope to steer Manchester City to European glory and this match will be a good test of how they can compete when entering the lion’s den. The prospect of a visit to the Camp Nou to tackle Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar doesn’t get any more daunting.

Celtic found that to their cost when losing 7-0 in September, with Brendan Rodgers’ side guilty of some poor defending and perhaps an overly attacking approach against a team that ripped them to shreds in the final reckoning.

This is a Barcelona side full of goals. Their last few games have seen them score 7-5-1-5-2-3-4. However, Atletico Madrid were able to land a 1-1 draw and there have been plenty of goals conceding including a 4-3 reverse at the hands of Celta Vigo.

There was also a home defeat against Alaves earlier in the campaign and Guardiola will hope that his City team can serve up a decent performance and get amongst the goals themselves.

It’s hard to see the visitors claiming victory although they did go and win at Old Trafford without Sergio Aguero earlier this season and the return to full fitness of Kevin de Bruyne means that we should expect them to find the net.

It’s a game which could feature plenty of goals and we’re happy to have a bet on the net bulging rather than lump on the home side at short odds.
