After a long playing career that started at Manchester United, Paul Heckingbottom is now living the dream at Oakwell where his caretaker stint looks likely to turn into a permanent one.

The 38-year-old took the reins from Lee Johnson when the latter left for Bristol City and no supporter is mourning his departure considering that Heckingbottom has actually improved on the performances and results of his predecessor.

Barnsley were seriously impressive in their play-off semi-final matches against Walsall, scoring six times over the two games and conceding just once.

The manager insists that the Yorkshire side will play in the same style at Wembley and that means without fear.

“We try to dictate, dominate and impose ourselves and it was important to get that message across,” Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Sheffield.

“When the players cross that white line, they give everything to get the result that they and the fans want.

“We have a group who are young, they’re athletic and fit, so we play with pace and we play to their strengths,” Heckingbottom continued.

“We try to use their strength, so the minimum is the opposition has to match us, and now the belief that when they apply themselves and make good decisions, they are a force.”

Barnsley have won both matches against Millwall this season, landing a 3-2 victory at The Den before a 2-1 triumph in the reverse game.

The bottom line is that Barnsley’s last four matches have involved lots of goals, with Millwall potentially needing to meet fire with fire.

Neil Harris’ team were enjoying a string of five wins before their second leg against Bradford and that finished 1-1 which was more than enough for the London side after winning 3-1 at Valley Parade.

Much has been made of the strike pairing involving Steve Morison and Lee Gregory and they can profit against a less-than-watertight defence, even if Barnsley’s quality should shine over the ninety minutes.
