Pep Guardiola has only been the Champions League bridesmaid with Bayern Munich and he looks set to miss out once again before swapping Bavaria with Manchester.

The Spaniard return to his native country last week but could only watch exasperatedly from the touchline as Atletico Madrid took an early lead in the semi-final first leg clash before lasting the distance.

A lack of away goal for Bayern means they will approach Tuesday’s clash uneasily, knowing that conceding just the one goal will leave them needing three against a team who consistently serve up a masterclass in defending.

Barcelona have already been dumped out by Atletico and it’s worth noting that the tide only turned in Barca’s favour at the Nou Camp when Fernando Torres was sent off. Diego Simeone’s side still escaped with a 2-1 defeat and went through 3-2 on aggregate.

Atleti come into the match off the back of seven straight wins, with the last four coming by a 1-0 scoreline and it’s easy enough to see a clean sheet being landed at the Allianz Arena. They are just ninety minutes away from a potential final against Real!

Diego Godin is set to return to the visitors’ line-up and the Uruguayan is the best at man-marking and marshalling his defence, with Bayern looking to probe away and hopefully get an early goal to settle the nerves and kick on.

However, they were held at bay in the first game and this will be a match that Atletico are relishing against a side who have not been playing high-intensity football in the Bundesliga since wrapping things up.
