Never mind the supposed fairytale at Bournemouth, it would be a far greater achievement if Brentford got over the line and reached the Premier League this month.

The Bees have a chance of making it to the promised land despite only being promoted from League One last season. They have also had to contend with manager Mark Warburton knowing that he will be stepping down as manager in the summer irrespective of what happens.

Warburton might not be out of work for too long although right now he is planning the downfall of Middlesbrough, with Boro getting close to automatic promotion before a 4-3 defeat at Fulham put paid to chances of landing a top two spot.

Indeed, Boro have been vulnerable on the road this term. Aside from 1-0 wins at Norwich and Derby, the other five recent away trips have seen the Teeside club defeated and Brentford will fancy their chances of establishing a first leg advantage.

The London side have little to lose from having a crack at their opponents, with a victory at Reading being followed by a 3-0 triumph against relegated Wigan on Saturday.

“These are the memories that live long but we have to make sure the focus is right for another very tough opponent,” said the Brentford boss.

“They (Boro) came here for a game on Sky where we did very well but we lost 1-0 to a penalty despite having a lot of chances.

“Up there we had a tough time, probably our toughest of the season, but we have to go there, deliver a performance and hopefully get a good result.”
