Italy qualified relatively easily for Euro 2016, going unbeaten in a group which included Croatia, Norway and Bulgaria.

Antonio Conte will be one of the best managers at the tournament, having successfully engineered Juventus to multiple Serie A titles before inheriting the Azzurri and he has several defensive generals at his disposal.

Gianluigi Buffon is a smart stopper between the sticks, with his Juventus team-mates Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli operating in front of him and it’s unlikely Italy will ship too many goals.

Italy are short of attacking quality, with Marchisio, Verratti and Montolivo among those players missing from the midfield, while Andreas Pirlo’s international career is now over.

Belgium suffer from the opposite problem, with the Red Devils dripping with attacking quality and that includes midfield dynamos Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne.

Yannick Carrasco is another quality midfielder, with Romelu Lukaku likely to get the nod ahead of Benteke, Origi and Batshuayi in attack.

Defensively, there are issues. Vincent Kompany is missing in central defence, with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen likely to be employed as full-backs rather than their usual position for Tottenham.

It means that Thomas Vermaelen and Jason Denayer are likely to operate in the middle of defence and the Belgians may be prone to conceding the odd goal.

Ultimately, this opening match is likely to be a cagey affair, with Italy likely to be very happy with a point before attempting to make their superiority felt against the Swedes and Irish.
