It’s easy to be derogatory about the Blue Samurai ahead of this clash, although we are talking about a Japan side who were happy to lose 1-0 against Poland and hope that Colombia remained ahead against Senegal.

The Asian side were undeserving qualifiers and owed plenty to Carlos Sanchez handling in the first match, with Japan now facing a team who were full of goals in Group G and are ready to make headway in this competition.

Belgium are heavy favourites to win this clash although this high-scoring side can be supported on the Asian Handicap with confidence. They overcame Panama by a 3-0 scoreline before a spectacular 5-2 triumph over Tunisia.

Winning these games by three-goal margins suggests that a two-goal margin of victory in this clash could be the answer, with Japan needing to come out of their shell should they fall a goal behind.

Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku should be well-rested and are likely to prove to be a thorn in the side of their opponents, with Kevin de Bruyne likely to orchestrate matters from central midfield.

Indeed, Lukaku will relish this type of game and will feel confident of being among the goals against a side who have looked porous in all their clashes to date.
