Manchester United begin a brand-new era this season, with Jose Mourinho replacing Louis van Gaal and hoping to establish the sort of legacy that Sir Alex Ferguson managed to achieve at Old Trafford.

Mourinho has been a controversial figure throughout his managerial career, with the Portuguese having ran down the Old Trafford touchline when in charge of Porto, before spells at Chelsea, Internazionale, Real Madrid and then Chelsea again.

He’s a spiky character who will hope to avoid the kind of player mutiny that occurred at Real and Chelsea most recently, with Mourinho defensive of his youth policy and hoping to get the best from Wayne Rooney who will not be featuring in midfield.

United open with a tricky clash down on the south coast, with Bournemouth having won this fixture last season and the Cherries will be up for this opener against a side who have recruited heavily in the summer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is part of a new-look team which could also feature Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with the Armenian expected to make the switch from Borussia Dortmund and the 27-year-old looks set to shine for the Red Devils.

Even so, the prices look slightly lop-sided taking into account that Mourinho might take some time to work his magic with a new team and Eddie Howe certainly will want his side to serve it up in front of their own supporters.

At odds of 15/4, the Cherries could be worth a punt to cause what many would describe as an “upset” although Howe would simply regard it as a job well done against a group of players getting used to working together.
