Spoiler alert – this game is unlikely to yield many goals. Southampton’s three away matches this season has seen them score twice and concede twice.

At home, the Saints have only averaged a goal per game and three of those came against the ten men of West Ham shortly after the season started.

Manuel Pellegrini likes to keep things tight and there have already been five Premier League games with one goal or less. Expect this to be the sixth.

Brighton are currently collecting enough points to stay in the division. A point from fixtures like this is a decent outcome although Chris Hughton will want to strike while the iron is hot.

A 1-1 draw with Everton saw the Seagulls narrowly fail to hold on to an advantage, while this was followed by a 3-0 win at West Ham which owed so much to the team’s defensive organisation.

Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy are being recognised as a robust central defensive pairing, while Pascal Gross and Anthony Knockaert are providing lots of flair and creativity.

Brighton’s only home reverse came against Manchester City, hardly a disgrace losing 2-0 to the champions-elect. Since then, they have beaten defensive West Brom and Newcastle teams as well as that draw against Everton.

Southampton’s only away victory came at Crystal Palace. They have lost at Stoke and drawn at Huddersfield in what was a dull game.

We think Brighton are worth taking here, along with a low goal count and the distinct possibility that the Seagulls will win the game by a single goal.
