There calling the ground “good” at Wincanton, but there’s rain on the way and that needs factoring in if you’re thinking of having a bet.

Jimmy The Jetplane was an impressive winner at the track just 10 days ago and as that was in a conditional jockeys’ race he escapes a penalty for that success when he runs in the 2m6f handicap hurdle (due off 2.20pm). However, his improved performance was put down to the better ground and with rain expected to hit the track somewhere around lunchtime, conditions might be a whole lot different.

In which case I’d want to be on Neil Mulholland’s BUCK MAGIC, who teams up with a certain AP McCoy, who is riding here for the final time before he hangs up his boots. In the selection he should have a willing partner as the nine-year-old is back down to a winning mark – 5lb lower than when last scoring at Newbury in fact – and he may well have gone close over fences at Kempton last time but for falling.

He’s just as effective over hurdles and has won over course and distance, albeit back in November 2010, and has looked as good as ever this term, with a couple of seconds place efforts to his name. With his stable in flying form – seven winners from just 16 runners in the last fortnight – and with AP’s assistance this could be the day he gets his head back on front and, unlike the favourite, he won’t be inconvenienced if the forecast rain arrives.
