Middlesbrough and Hull City are threatening to scramble clear of the chasing pack at the top of the Championship, with Derby County having fallen out of the automatic spots and their fans won’t be confident of winning Monday’s clash at Turf Moor.

The teams played out a goalless draw at the iPro Stadium earlier this season with the Rams by far the better team, although Derby’s form has recently taken a nosedive and County could well miss out on promotion for the third season running.

A 2-2 draw at Leeds was fair enough and a 2-0 reverse at the Riverside was no disgrace, although a tepid display when drawing 1-1 with Reading was followed by a nightmare against Birmingham where the Rams lost 3-0.

Paul Clement is as confused as anyone as to why the players have lost their way, with Chris Martin and Jacob Butterfield dropped against the Blues and Nick Blackman needing time to settle after his move from Reading.

It all points to a Burnley win considering the Clarets are in much better nick. Sean Dyche has steered his team to fourth in the table and they have won four of their past five matches.

Successive away wins at Middlesbrough, MK Dons and Brentford have given the Clarets a real confidence boost and Joey Barton has slotted in well at Turf Moor.

The bookies are offering up Burnley at a big price, with Derby perhaps having flattered to deceive up to now and looking vulnerable against the danger man that is Andre Gray.
