There are a few things worth noting ahead of Thursday’s second leg clash between Burnley and Olympiakos.

Firstly, the Clarets have not yet won a match in ninety minutes this season. Yes, they have overcome Aberdeen and Istanbul Buyuk to get to the verge of the group stages, although these victories have come thanks to extra-time victories at Turf Moor.

In the Premier League, a goalless draw at Southampton has been followed by a 3-1 defeat at home to Watford and then a 4-2 reverse at Fulham, with Sean Dyche admitting that the Cottagers were the better side on Sunday.

Now Dyche has to pick over the bones of a squad who don’t look capable of challenging on a domestic and European front, with Johann Berg Gudmundsson the latest player to get an injury setback.

Burnley are also not the best team to chase a scoreline. They were constantly caught out against Fulham and could have conceded more than the four that slipped into the net.

They trail 3-1 from last week’s first leg in Greece and it’s plausible that they will concede a similar number of goals in this clash, with Burnley facing that quandary of not wanting to concede an away goal while going forward.

A 2-0 victory is the target although a goal for the Greek side will mean that the Clarets need goals and we can see Olympiakos picking them off.

The visitors won 3-1 at Lucerne in the previous round after a 4-0 home win and look like they might have too much class for their plucky opponents who now need to focus on improving things domestically.
