There’s some modest fare on offer at this afternoon’s four meetings and somewhat strangely it’s flat action all the way.

There’s nothing jumping off the page at either Yarmouth or Chepstow, where the soft ground could throw up some shock results, and I’m therefore going to concentrate on Carlisle here, with a couple of runners catching the eye.

First up, I’ll be disappointed if Rebecca Bastiman’s GONE WITH THE WIND can’t see off his eight rivals in the North Associates Handicap run over a few yards shy of a mile (due off 5.15pm). He hasn’t won since landing back-to-back successes on the all-weather in the spring of 2014, but he signalled his turn was near when failing by just a short head to collar Six Silver Lane over a furlong further at Musselburgh 19 days ago. He looked certain to score that day – traded at 1.01 in running – and it clearly showed he had the ability to win on turf too.

The handicapper has raised him 3lb for his troubles, but his new mark of 62 is still on the generous side given he was as high as 76 at one point, and he has won off 8lb higher. He’s dropping back in trip today, but I don’t see that as a problem over this stiff track and he seems pretty versatile over the ground. The in-form Andrew Mullen rides and I’m hoping the selection can provide him with the first leg of a double.
