Two teams are left standing in the 2015/16 Champions League, with the representatives from Madrid defeating the other main pretenders so it is Real and Atletico lining up at the San Siro on Saturday night.

It’s the latter who have achieved this in the toughest way imaginable, with Barcelona taken care of over two legs before a brilliant masterplan saw them defeat Bayern Munich on away goals.

Diego Simeone is arguably the best football manager in the world, with the Argentine getting a tune out of this Atletico side despite several changes in personnel from two years ago when they reached the Champions League final.

Atleti finished just three points behind champions Barcelona and two behind Real, with a 2-1 reverse at Levante putting paid to their prospects although Simeone will now have his team right for Saturday’s showdown.

There has been little quarter given in either match between the pair of city rivals this season. There was a 1-1 draw at the Vicente Calderon in October which was followed by a 1-0 win for Atletico at the Bernabeu in February.

Therefore, a tight game looks set to be on the cards, with Simeone clearly aware that Real can do potential damage with the attacking weaponry at their disposal.

Zinedine Zidane certainly appears to be making the manager’s position his own and Real didn’t suffer a domestic defeat after that loss in February.

Indeed, the only reverse since then occurred in the Champions League at Wolfsburg and a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick turned the tie on its head, with the same player clearly the potential match-winner here.

There’s been a two-week preparation for Real since winning 2-0 at Deportivo, with Zidane’s team largely selecting itself and they will be primed for the physical tussle that awaits them in Milan.

However, Atletico have amazing team spirit in their ranks and Antoine Griezmann is a player that can cause problems for the lumbering central defensive partnership of Pepe and Sergio Ramos.

Griezmann has continually found a way to score in the competition this term and Atletico can repeat the trick of taking a 1-0 lead against their opponents but this time achieving a shut-out to make history.
