Cheltenham Town are enjoying their second season back in the Football League, although they continue to hover around the lower reaches of the League Two table and haven’t really kicked on since winning the National League title in style.

Gary Johnson will enjoy the chance to pit his wits against a top flight team, although his side have enjoyed just one win from the opening three matches and were soundly beaten at Carlisle on Saturday.

A 1-0 win over struggling Crawley was hardly breath-taking although the Robins did land a 4-3 win at Oxford in the previous round and have little to lose against a West Ham side who continue to take to the road while the London Stadium is available for use.

Slaven Bilic saw his Hammers side lose 4-0 at Old Trafford before a more slender 3-2 reverse at St Mary’s and the way his team battled back from two goals down will have impressed the Croatian.

Let’s not forget that West Ham can call upon plenty of fringe players for this game should Bilic want to rotate and we might expect Diafra Sakho, Sam Byram and Pedro Obiang to be among the players lining up for the clash.

There are two divisions in between these teams and it might be worth chancing West Ham to win by a decent margin, with the Hammers making appeal on the Asian Handicap giving Cheltenham a 1.5 goal start.
