Spain are now outright favourites to win Euro 2016, with that group exit in 2014 looking increasingly like a blip as the latest crop of players make smooth progress to the latter stages of the competition.

A 1-0 win against Czech Republic was followed by a 3-0 win against Turkey, with Alvaro Morata looking the part as La Roja’s centre forward. The Juventus man could be in demand come the end of the tournament.

Spain are already qualified and simply need a point to reach the last sixteen stage, with Vicente del Bosque potentially rotating his team for the final section game considering there could be an additional four games left this summer.

Not that the understudies are poor, with Lucas Vázquez and Aritz Aduriz itching to get a run out, while Koke, Thiago and Bruno can also make an impact against a Croatia side who have racked up four points from two games.

Indeed, the Croatians should have had a maximum haul against Czech Republic before an untimely intervention from a section of their supporters disrupted the game and led to the latter getting a point from the game.

There’s plenty to like about a team who have Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic pulling the strings in midfield, with Ivan Perišić also impressing as he’s done for Internazionale all season.

However, it’s hard to see Croatia having enough to overcome a canny Spain side who have Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique operating in front of David de Gea, while the full-backs Jordi Alba and Juanfran are as good as anything at this tournament.

Spain might not have to come out of second or third gear to make sure of the point they need to set up a last sixteen clash against a third-placed team.
