OK so we all know that Sunderland have been rank this season although let’s not forget that Sam Allardyce is in charge at the Stadium of Light and he’s had the international break to work on a way to improve the team’s defending.

Allardyce will also be aware that Crystal Palace are finding wins and goals in short supply at Selhurst Park, despite the Eagles’ impressive form on the road which has seen them triumph at Anfield and Stamford Bridge this term.

Alan Pardew has seen his team average just one goal per home match, with Sunderland not yet needing to press the panic button considering that Aston Villa are faring even worse, while Bournemouth, Norwich and Newcastle look set for a scrap.

After the 6-2 debacle at Goodison Park, it will be a case of really packing the midfield out and making themselves hard to beat. Palace’s biggest weakness is a lack of quality striker, even if Conor Wickham has the potential to blossom at the London club.

Perhaps the former Sunderland striker will make the difference in this match although we’d prefer to stick with a low goal count. A draw would delight the visitors who need to stop the rot after a succession of four away defeats.

Duncan Watmore has been one positive from this season, although Allardyce is likely to favour one man up top for this clash, with Steven Fletcher most capable of holding the ball up and bringing others into play.
