Costa Rica are one of those teams who are readily dismissed by many football fans although they proved at the 2014 World Cup that they’re not minnows on the world stage anymore.

Indeed, they finished top of a group that included England, Italy and Uruguay, with the former two teams being dumped out and they will have similar aspirations in a 2018 World Cup group that includes Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia.

Costa Rica arrive at Elland Road off the back of a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland, with Michael O’Neill complimentary about his team’s pacy opponents which included Joel Campbell.

“It was was a tough game” he said. “We knew it would be a tough game against a very good side – we’re disappointed to lose two goals off corners because it is not in character for us to do so.

“It was a good experience particularly for our young players in the second half. To experience the atmosphere which was fantastic and to also play against this level of opposition.”

England are likely to be changed after a 2-1 win over Nigeria on Saturday, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson joining up with the squad, while Jamie Vardy and Phil Jones might also start the game in Leeds.

The Three Lions are 1/3 to win the match, although there is more merit in backing the draw considering that Nigeria came right back into the game at Wembley.

After a bright first half, Gareth Southgate’s team couldn’t continue with the level of dominance and we’re happy to back the draw at odds of 4/1.

For a correct score, 1-1 could be the order of the day as Southgate spends more time looking at combinations and there could be more game time for Marcus Rashford and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
