England Women’s World Cup adventure is nearly over, with Japan eliminating them from the competition on Wednesday night.

A last-minute Laura Bassett own goal was cruel on the Lionesses who played with plenty of heart as they worked their way through the competition, beating Canada and Norway in the knockout stage.

Mark Sampson’s team can hold their heads up and be proud of a fantastic achievement, with a third place play-off match against Germany now taking place before they fly back to a heroes welcome in the United Kingdom.

Matches like this are tough to predict considering that both teams will still be feeling the disappointment that came from semi-final defeats, with Germany suffering at the hands of USA after fortunately beating France.

The Germans were World Cup favourites all the way through the tournament although the last two matches have seen them prove underwhelming and the chances are that they could be lacklustre again.

Similarly, Sampson might choose to play an untested England team in this game and we’ll happily go for goals in this match rather than try to predict the outcome of the game.

Germany are plenty short enough for what is essentially a dead rubber and we think that this could easily end in a high-scoring draw.
