It’s been a strange old season for Everton who are the only team to have stopped Manchester City winning in the Premier League but also a side who were soundly beaten 3-0 away to Atalanta a fortnight ago.

Ronald Koeman also needed Oumar Niasse to come out of the cold and score a brace to see off Bournemouth on Saturday and perhaps the Senegalese forward now has a future at Everton despite being given short shrift by his manager.

The Toffees don’t have a plethora of attacking options and Gylfi Sigurdsson is yet to enjoy a meaningful impact in a blue shirt, although Thursday presents them with an opportunity to record a comprehensive win in Europe.

Everton are predictably short with the online bookies to win against Apollon, with the visitors to Goodison Park having scored a late equaliser against Lyon two weeks ago and they’ll have nothing to lose from having a go at their English opponents.

Even so, there might be a gulf in quality and Koeman will want his team to deliver a strong victory ahead of Sunday’s clash against Burnley which will probably be a tougher assignment.

Niasse could start this particular match and Tom Davies might also be recalled from the bench, with Apollon having come through several rounds to reach this stage of the competition and that has included a two-legged win over Aberdeen.

The bottom line is that a 2-1 reverse at Pittodrie is the only time the Cypriot side have lost this entire campaign and we’re backing them on the Asian Handicap against a side with more questions than answers.
