Oh Everton. They could have been Premier League title contenders this season had the Toffees not thrown away so many winning positions.

Last weekend summed up their season. Roberto Martinez’s team tore apart West Ham with eleven and then ten men, with Romelu Lukaku’s saved penalty leading to the Hammers wrestling the initiative back to win the game.

However, there was so much to like about Everton’s performance and we must note that they wiped the floor with Chelsea earlier this season when winning 3-1 thanks to an unlikely Steven Naismith hat-trick.

Chelsea are yet to beaten under Guus Hiddink aside from two Champions League reverses against Paris Saint-Germain, although that European exit means that the players might down tools as the season draws to a close.

The body language of the players is questionable and Eden Hazard is particularly culpable as he exhibits all the hallmarks of someone who is going to be lining up at a different club next season.

Yes, Hiddink will want to land the FA Cup as he did during his last caretaker spell at the club, although we’re likely to see Hazard, Diego Costa and John Terry sidelined for this match and there just aren’t enough players operating at a high enough level for the London side.

Everton should have recently won at Stamford Bridge, with Aaron Lennon playing a blinder in every match right now, while Lukaku continues to score at a rate of knots as the Belgian demonstrates that Chelsea were plain foolish to let him go.
